How to Block Gambling Sites on Mac (2026 Guide)

Using Safari? Add the gambling sites you want blocked in Screen Time:

  1. Open System Settings > Screen Time. Enable App & Website Activity if needed.
  2. Turn on Content & Privacy, then open App Store, Media, Web & Games.
  3. Choose Limit Adult Websites > Customize. Add each gambling URL to Restricted and save.
  4. Try each address in Safari without signing in or placing a bet. Check that access is blocked.

Add the domains yourself; the adult-content setting alone does not establish gambling coverage. Apple's web-restriction instructions.

Using Chrome or Firefox? Follow the other-browser steps. Protect Screen Time settings so the Safari block is harder to change.

Block Gambling Sites in Safari With Screen Time #

Apple documents a restricted website list inside Screen Time. If you manage a child through Family Sharing, select that family member before changing Content & Privacy. Menu labels can vary with macOS versions.

Add the main domain and any regional, mobile, casino, sportsbook, poker, bingo, or account domains you have used. Manual lists require maintenance when an operator changes domains or a new account appears.

The Allowed Websites Only option is more restrictive because it limits browsing to an approved list. It may interrupt ordinary work, school, banking, health, and support sites, so review the allowed list carefully before relying on it.

Remove Safari Shortcuts and Prompts #

A blocked domain is easier to avoid when Safari no longer suggests or restores it. Review:

  • bookmarks and Favorites;
  • saved passwords and passkeys;
  • autofill and saved payment information;
  • website notifications;
  • home-page and new-tab shortcuts;
  • open tabs, tab groups, and browsing profiles;
  • downloads, calendar reminders, and email links connected to gambling.

Deleting these items does not close the gambling account. It removes familiar shortcuts while the account and exclusion steps are completed.

Cover Chrome, Firefox, and Other Browsers #

Safari's Screen Time website list should not be assumed to cover every other browser in the same way. If Chrome or another browser is installed, test it separately.

For Chrome, follow the Chrome gambling-site blocking guide. A browser extension can block named domains, but a person who controls the browser may be able to disable it. Add a DNS, router, or device-level layer if you need coverage outside one browser profile.

Detachr for Mac is scheduled for October 1. Review the gambling blocker overview to see the planned Desktop protection and choose Mac when the signed download opens.

After configuring a network filter, check whether the browser uses its own secure DNS provider. Also test:

  • normal and private windows;
  • every browser profile;
  • guest browsing;
  • links opened from email or messages;
  • another Wi-Fi network;
  • a phone hotspot;
  • VPN or relay services you already use.

The home WiFi guide explains router and DNS setup, including common bypass routes.

Limit Gambling Apps on macOS #

Screen Time App Limits can add a daily limit to an app or category:

  1. Open System Settings > Screen Time > App Limits.
  2. Turn on App Limits.
  3. Add each gambling, betting, casino, poker, odds, or payment app that has been part of the route.
  4. Choose the shortest practical limit and turn on Block at end of limit where available.
  5. Test the limit before the next high-risk time.

An app limit is a delay, and it may still allow a request for more time. Remove gambling apps you do not need. Review browser-based access because deleting an app leaves the account available on the web.

Protect Screen Time Settings #

Apple lets you set a Screen Time passcode on Mac. Use a code that is different from the Mac login password.

When the arrangement is safe and voluntary, a trusted person can create and retain the Screen Time passcode. Agree in advance on what happens if you ask to change the setting during an urge. Do not share banking passwords, identity documents, or the Mac login password as part of this arrangement.

Screen Time is controlled by the person with access to the Mac and the relevant Apple Account settings. A passcode adds friction. It does not establish that every route is impossible to change, so pair it with account restrictions and independent barriers.

Add DNS or Router Filtering #

A DNS or router filter can cover more than one browser and may protect other devices on the same network. Choose a service that explicitly supports a gambling category or custom denylist. Generic security or adult-content filters may not include gambling domains.

Use the provider's current Mac or router instructions, then test the exact domains you need to restrict. Check:

  • the Mac on home Wi-Fi;
  • the Mac on another network or phone hotspot;
  • each browser's secure DNS setting;
  • VPNs or privacy relays already installed;
  • operator apps that may use different domains.

Network filtering remains one layer. Someone with administrator or router access may be able to change it, and a different network may use a different resolver.

Close Accounts and Payment Routes #

Device settings do not close a casino or sportsbook account. Complete the other parts of the shutdown plan:

  1. Save transaction, balance, tax, and open-wager records you may need.
  2. Start account closure or self-exclusion for every operator you use.
  3. Check the scope and duration of each official self-exclusion program.
  4. Remove saved cards, bank accounts, wallets, and passwords from gambling accounts.
  5. Ask your bank which gambling merchant controls, card locks, cash limits, and alerts are available.
  6. Use the gambling transaction-blocking guide to identify payment routes a single control may miss.

Avoid placing another wager while a balance, withdrawal, or open wager is being handled. Follow the operator's published process and keep confirmation records.

Test the Complete Mac Setup #

Use a written checklist and do not enter payment details:

  • Safari blocks every known gambling domain.
  • Other installed browsers block the same domains.
  • Private windows and guest profiles do not reopen access.
  • Deleted gambling apps cannot be opened from the Dock, Applications, or Launchpad.
  • App Limits activate as expected.
  • DNS or router filtering works on the intended network.
  • Another Wi-Fi network or hotspot does not reveal an unplanned route.
  • Screen Time changes require the expected passcode.
  • Gambling accounts, marketing, and payment shortcuts are closed or restricted separately.

Repeat the test after a macOS update, browser update, new device, network change, or operator-domain change.

Common Questions #

Can Screen Time block gambling sites on Mac?

Screen Time lets you choose Limit Adult Websites and add specific domains to a restricted list. Add the gambling sites you use and test them in Safari. Check other browsers separately because their behavior and settings can differ.

How do I block gambling sites in Safari?

Open Screen Time, turn on Content & Privacy, open the web-content settings, choose Limit Adult Websites, and add each gambling domain under Customize. Protect Screen Time with a separate passcode and test the list.

Does deleting a gambling app close the account?

No. The account may remain available through Safari, another browser, another device, or a new installation. Use account closure or self-exclusion as well as device blocking.

Should I create a separate Safari-only blocker?

Start with Screen Time and a broader Mac or network layer. One Mac guide can cover Safari and the routes around it. A separate Safari page would only be useful if search data later shows a stable task that this guide cannot answer well.
