Follow these steps to enroll in North Carolina's self-exclusion program.
- 1
Open the Enrollment Form from the North Carolina State Lottery Commission's responsible gaming page
- 2
Choose one year, three years, five years, or lifetime
- 3
Verify your identity with government-issued identification or the unique verification questions provided during enrollment
- 4
Submit the online form, or enroll in person at a North Carolina Education Lottery Claims Center
- 5
Allow about three to four business days for a validated exclusion to take effect with licensed operators
- 6
Contact any tribal casino separately because the state program excludes wagering on federally recognized tribal lands
Ending or Removing Self-Exclusion
One-, three-, and five-year terms end with automatic removal. For removal before a selected term ends, including a lifetime term, Commission guidance says petitions are limited to circumstances such as mistaken identity or fraud. Current rules require an eligible requester to complete a reinstatement session, submit the Commission's petition, and wait 30 days. Confirm eligibility with the Commission before relying on early removal.
Important Notes
Although the regulator's name includes Lottery, this voluntary exclusion program covers sports wagering and pari-mutuel horse-race wagering, not lottery purchases. State rules also exclude wagering on federally recognized tribal lands, so tribal casino exclusion must be handled separately.
